Remembering Jessica Ridgeway: Happy 11th Birthday in Heaven, Sweet Angel!

24 Jan

Jessica #4

On January 23, Jessica Ridgeway would have turned 11. That was not to be….Her story touched the hearts of a nation, and the world in October 2012, when she was kidnapped and murdered 3 blocks from her home on the way to school.

Jessica loved the color purple, her dog, and loved cheerleading. She wanted to be a cheerleader. The thing that struck me the most about Jessica however was her kindness. She was a friend to everyone. That is why this has become so emotional and personal to me.

In the months since her passing, the people of Colorado have come together as a community to honor this special little girl. It has brought out the best of people. The City of Westminster has renamed the park near Jessica’s house Jessica Ridgeway Park. There is a campaign to redesign the park in a way to honor Jessica.

The Brookfield Commuinty Foundation has also worked with the family to set up The Jessica Ridgeway Legacy Fund, which will fund different programs that Jessica would have liked. One initiative is to provide funds for underprivileged children to attend cheerleading camp, one of Jessica’s loves.

My family wore purple yesterday in Jessica’s honor. Even though I am 2,000 miles away, I could not help but cry and wish she were still here. Every time I get sad, I play “Call Me Maybe” on my daughter’s i touch. Jessica liked this song.

I have included some links to sites if you would like to help or if you would just like to know more about Jessica:
